STAN RANDELL AND CO. LTD.
When Stan Randell left school in 1958 he commenced his working life as an apprentice carpenter. After completing a five-year apprenticeship he decided to “go it alone” and joined the ranks of the self-employed, carrying out small carpentry works for various building contractors in the area. The contracts gradually grew in size and before long Stan was employing more than thirty carpenters on several projects in the area.
From these small beginnings the company, at the request of some of its Clients, started to carry out full building works. Before long the construction work took over from the sub contract carpentry and so became Stan Randell and Co. Building Contractors. That was nearly forty years ago and some of those original carpenters are still working for the company today.
For many years the company was run by Stan and his wife, Mary, but as the workload increased and the company grew more staff was required. First an estimator/surveyor and an accounts clerk and then Colin Randell, Stan’s younger brother who worked for Stan on leaving school, was made a director and assisted Stan with contract management. Colin has been joined by Stan’s eldest son, Phil, as a director responsible for the estimating and surveying.
The company has steadily grown to its present size. Throughout this time care has been taken to only undertake the amount of work that the personnel could cope with, which enabled the directors to maintain control of the company’s development in both practical and financial terms.
So, as Stan embarks on a phased retirement, the company remains in good hands and just as committed to maintaining the ideals that have made the company where it is today.
